Executive Director has overall responsibility for the successful accomplishment of both PCSB's short-term and long-term goals and objectives. Position has primary responsibility for providing day-to-day leadership to the PCSB. The position reports to the Board of Directors, working closely with its chairman and its standing committees. The executive director serves at the pleasure of the board and its chairman as stipulated in District of Columbia School Reform Act.
•Directs PCSB's daily operations, including a full-time staff of 27 professionals, financial resources, program and operating systems.
•Accountable for PCSB's $5 million annual operating budget and managing budgetary expenditures with established limitations.
•Supervises establishment of policies, procedures and daily staff functions consistent with PCSB's mission, vision and strategic priorities.
• Promotes the Board vision of providing leading-edge public education in DC and serving as a national model for high quality charter schools.
•Oversees the development and successful execution of PCSB's strategic priorities and strategic plan in conjunction with the Board of Directors. Interfaces regularly with the PCSB Board of Directors to achieve strategic priorities. Ensures effective communication between staff and board.
•Leads the effective oversight of existing charter schools according to the PCSB accountability system and the comprehensive review of new charter applications.
•Manages and maintains working relationships with key external stakeholders (e.g., Mayor, Deputy Mayor for Education, District of Columbia Public Schools, City Council, Office of the State Superintendent of Education, Department of Education, charter school boards and leadership, families, charter school advocacy groups, national government officials).
•Manages relationships with current PCSB funders and philanthropic community to promote awareness and understanding of PCSB projects and initiatives, and identifies and pursues sources of support as directed by the Board of Directors.
•Advanced degree in public administration, business administration, education or related field is preferred.
•At least ten years of relevant work experience.
•Strong track record of managerial experience in the education field.
•Understanding of charter schools, authorizing, and relevant policy and legal context. Knowledge of the legal framework and regulatory requirements for charter schools in the District of Columbia is highly desired.
•Strong written and verbal communication skills.
