
POSITION OVERVIEW
Editorial Projects in Education, Inc., the most trusted voice in American education journalism and the publisher of Education Week,
edweek.org, Digital Directions, Teacher Professional Development Sourcebook, and
TopSchoolJobs.org, seeks a creative and dynamic Marketing Associate to develop and execute marketing plans that support advertising and event sponsorship objectives. The Marketing Associate owns and manages all marketing activities for assigned products. These products serve an audience that includes over one million superintendents, administrators, education technology leaders and teachers.
The position requires close interaction with other marketing, sales, editorial and production staff. The position reports to the Associate Publisher for Sales and Marketing.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Product promotion and brand stewardship that increases revenue
• Create and implement marketing plans for assigned media properties
• Plan and execute targeted sales collateral such as media kits, email promotions, sell sheets, direct mailings, sales presentations, print and online advertisements
• Write clear and meaningful promotions and sales collateral and, as appropriate, work effectively with outside copywriters, as well as internal and external designers
• Develop and continually refine knowledge on the markets and customers served by each product
• Leverage key technologies in marketing efforts, including customer relationship management tools (SalesForce.com) and email marketing tools
• Monitor competitor products and marketing activities
• Manage trade show participation, including logistics, at-event promotion, budget management and lead acquisition
• Manage and staff hosted events, to include timelines, vendor relationships, proposal management, contracting, and day-of staffing.
• Plan, develop and execute audience development initiatives
• Develop understanding of current customer needs and opportunities using Web analytics and survey tools and report findings
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
• Bachelor’s Degree
• Uncommon intelligence and intellectual curiosity demonstrated through academic and/or professional achievements
• 0-3 years professional experience, marketing experience a plus
• General understanding of current trends and tactics in marketing, including online marketing
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to conceive and write clear, persuasive marketing copy
• Unfailing attention to detail and organizational skills, rigid deadline focus, and ability to prioritize and execute multiple tasks concurrently
• Strong analytic skills and ability to present analysis clearly
• Creativity
• PC proficiency, including Word, PowerPoint, Excel, email, and internet and the demonstrated ability to learn new applications quickly
• Ability to work flexible schedule, including weekends, as required to meet needs of business
• Ability to travel as needed for conferences, professional development activities, and other meetings
• Exceptional team player with the interpersonal skills—including confidence and humility—necessary to interact effectively with various departments, levels of management and clients
• Uncompromising integrity, spirit of generosity and work ethic
• Positive attitude, solution orientation, and excellent problem-solving skills
• Basic Photoshop and/or HTML skills a plus
• Persistence and grace under pressure
