Personnel Services announces an opening for the position of Director of Planning and Evaluation. This is a twelve-month position, Grade P-16, on the administrative and supervisory salary scale with a salary range of $88,146 to $130,478.
DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF WORK
The Director of Planning and Evaluation, who works under the general supervision of the Assistant Superintendent of Information Services, is responsible for providing leadership in planning, supporting, and monitoring the planning, program evaluation, and assessment processes for schools and the division.

• Assists the superintendent in developing and reporting on the Strategic Plan.
• Provides direction and other support in development of school improvement plans and annual
school management plans that address appropriate Strategic Plan goals and school concerns.
• Reviews and analyzes department plans developed to implement the Strategic Plan.
• Prepares state student reports on graduation, plans for postsecondary education, dropout statistics with reasons, membership, and others.
• Prepares local student reports such as AYP results, promotions/retentions, civil rights statistics, and instructional transfers.
• Coordinates Virginia accreditation process and information.
• Coordinates SACS district accreditation process including compliance with standards, development of reports, and facilitation of visits from district quality assurance review teams.
• Coordinates staff review and response to changes in Standards of Quality and Standards for Accrediting Public Schools in Virginia.
• Oversees the administration of state and local testing program.
• Oversees the school system’s comprehensive program evaluation process.
• Oversees both internal and external research activities according to policy.
• Plans, directs, and evaluates the work of subordinates.
• Performs related duties as required or assigned.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
• Comprehensive knowledge of a wide range of educational testing and evaluation programs and their utilization in fulfilling the mission and goals of the Arlington Public Schools.
• Considerable knowledge of development and implementation of strategic planning and school improvement planning processes.
• Considerable knowledge of data collection and statistical analysis.
• Considerable knowledge of the legal requirements associated educational testing and assessment.
• Considerable knowledge of the principles and practices of school administration.
• Thorough knowledge of the structure and organization of a school system.
• Good knowledge of modern supervisory principles and practices.
• Skill in gathering data, applying the appropriate procedures to analysis of data, and interpret results.
• Skill in training school and central office staff on data collection, analysis, and interpretation.
• Skill in the use of computer applications in the field of educational testing and evaluation.
• Skill in communicating results, verbally and in writing.
• Ability to exercise considerable independent judgment and sound reasoning ability in the evaluation of data.
• Ability to maintain detailed records and information and prepare evaluative reports.
• Ability to plan, direct, and evaluate the work of professional, technical, and office support staff.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisor, Superintendent and senior staff, school principals and other school-based administrators, teachers, parents, state department of education personnel, SACS personnel, and parents.
MINIMUM EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
• A master’s degree (doctorate preferred) in educational administration including course work in assessment, research, evaluation, or a related area plus considerable experience in school administration, research, and educational testing; or any equivalent combination of education
and experience that would provide the required knowledge, skill, and ability.
