Cal/West Educators Placement   |  Orange County CA USA   |  Full Time - 12 Month
Job Description
Tarbut V’ Torah, founded in 1991, is the only K-12 Jewish community day school in Orange County, California, and one of the largest in the nation. It is a non-affiliated, pluralistic school which provides a dual program in both secular and Jewish studies.

Reporting to the Board of Directors, the Head of School will be responsible for leading Tarbut V’Torah Community Day School in upholding and advancing its mission and vision. The Head will be accountable for overseeing the implementation of the school’s strategic plan and will articulate the compelling “story” of TVT to all constituencies – students, faculty and staff, parents, alumni, and the community. The Head will provide senior leadership to ensure collaboration and continuity of the K-12 academic and Judaic program. The Head will serve as a role model for the Jewish culture and community of the school.

Responsibilities related to the “5 A’s” of TVT:

ACADEMICS
The Head will provide educational leadership and vision for continued development of a curriculum with high academic standards and the implementation of best practice methodologies. The Head will build relationships with the local academic community, including colleges and universities, Jewish schools, independent schools, and public schools to generate synergies.

ADVANCEMENT
In partnership with the Board, the Head will create and establish a culture of giving, cultivate major donors, and ensure that fundraising goals are achieved. The Head will serve as a public leader and representative of TVT in the greater Orange County community to increase the public awareness of the school and of the value of an education at TVT.

ADMISSIONS
The Head will serve as the “public face” of TVT in the community to attract new families, retain existing students, and reduce attrition. The Head will also coordinate the efforts of the admissions office with the school’s marketing programs to ensure continued growth in enrollment. The Head will work with the Board and admissions office to re-evaluate policy and criteria for admissions.

ATMOSPHERE
The Head will serve as a role model for students, faculty, staff, and families to develop and promote TVT’s Jewish foundational mission. The Head will enjoy support from a strong Parent-Teacher-Student Organization. The Head will promote a culture for student success while motivating students to achieve higher levels of accomplishment and ethical behavior. The Head will provide effective communication to families and community, recognizing the community's desire for transparency while understanding the need for confidentiality.

ADMINISTRATION
The Head will serve as the chief executive of the school and work closely with the principals of the elementary, middle, and high schools. The Head will oversee and ensure that all aspects of day-to-day operations of the school run smoothly and with financial integrity. Challenges and Opportunities
• A TVT education provides exceptional and broad opportunities for students; this value needs to be communicated and demonstrated effectively to families at the school as well as to the greater community.

• While being one of the largest Jewish day schools in the United States, TVT has experienced some recent decline in enrollment and increased attrition at the middle and upper school levels. The new Head will need to identify and implement effective tools to attract and retain students and families at all levels.

• The diversity of the TVT community represents many ethnic backgrounds and varying levels of religious observance. While this diversity is a source of pride and celebration for the school, satisfying the varied needs of the families in the TVT community requires a careful and thoughtful approach.

• A core strength of TVT is its committed and cohesive faculty which enjoys a strong level of retention. The Head will ensure that the faculty continues to enjoy opportunities for professional development and advancement so that excellence and high standards are maintained. An ability to inspire progress and accountability in the faculty without disturbing their cohesive nature will be an essential skill for the Head.

• The Orange County Jewish Community is blessed to have great financial resources at its disposal. However, the school and greater community lack the necessary independent school culture of giving. The Head will need to educate the TVT community that voluntary financial support is not only important, but crucial to the success and long-term viability of the school. To do so, the Head must be able to compellingly articulate the value proposition of an education at TVT.

• Strongly articulated and present in the school life of TVT’s students are the core values of community, service, and Jewish identity. The Head will continue to educate families on the importance of ensuring these values are present and acted upon in the lives of students when they are outside the school environment.

• The Head will need to examine and address differing philosophies on the approach to Judaic Studies. While TVT has an excellent academic reputation, the Head will continue the work necessary to best integrate Judaic Studies and Jewish values into the overall curriculum.
