The Clinton Community School District Board of Education seeks a superintendent of schools. The district welcomes outstanding educational leaders to apply and complete the application process. The application deadline is February 27, 2017. The Board of Education will select candidates for interviews and invite the selected candidates to engage in meaningful conversations with them and community stakeholders on March 6, 7 and 8. The current superintendent is retiring after her successful leadership tenure. The Board of Education is conducting a search for a new leader with a record of student achievement accomplishments to continue the district’s mission of improving learning for all students.
Clinton Community School District is comprised of four elementary schools, a middle school, and high school with over 3,900 students. The district has a 15 member administrative team, 9 principals, 303 certified staff members, and 275 classified staff members. The student population diversity includes 60% free/reduced lunch, 25% minority, 14% special education, and 2% English Language Learners. The district has been highly successful academically through effective professional development, an instructional focus, and intentional interventions. Clinton High School was named “Best High School” by U.S. News and World Report, Whittier Elementary was named a U.S. Department of Education National Blue Ribbon School, and the district has also received recognition for RtI that Works and Model PLC District.
The City of Clinton is a community of over 25,000 residents with an energetic civic and commercial population located in Eastern Iowa along the Mississippi River. The Clinton area offers year-round attractions, outstanding annual events, live theater, craft and antique shops, unique restaurants and historic districts. State-of-the-art marina and riverfront amenities include a municipal pool and splash park, bike and pedestrian path, and Lumberkings baseball. Clinton proudly boasts a notable group of current and former citizens that include Pulitzer Prize winners, Hall-of-Fame football players, war heroes, sportscasters, 2015 Miss Iowa, current NFL All-Pro Running Back David Johnson, world-class opera singers, 2nd City comedians, professional actors and singers, and the first African American as Mayor of an Iowa Town.
The Board of Education is looking for an instructional, human resource, and fiscal leader. The Board is seeking a candidate that continues a positive board relationship and is actively involved in the community. Applicants are required to have a baccalaureate and master’s degree from an accredited institution and experience in teaching and school administration. The superintendent of schools position requires the candidate hold an Iowa Professional Administrator License with a Superintendent Endorsement or demonstrate eligibility to hold such a license. The Board of Directors is offering a $185,000 minimum annual salary and competitive benefits.
