The Washoe County School District (WCSD) is the second largest school district in the state of Nevada. Our district serves approximately 63,000 students in 95 public schools and 8 public charter schools. Over 95% of school-aged students attend public schools in the District, which demonstrates the community’s support for public education.
We are located in a beautiful setting, with Lake Tahoe and the Sierra Nevada Mountains to the West and the Great Basin Desert to the East. Our region is an area rich with outdoor activities such as hiking, climbing, biking, skiing, fishing, boating and much, much more. Three national parks (Yosemite, Lassen, and Death Valley) are within easy driving distance.
The Board of Trustees has brought a dynamic leader to WCSD. Dr. Heath Morrison is a Broad Superintendent’s Academy graduate, and was formerly with Montgomery County School District in Maryland. He brings energy and enthusiasm to our district and community, focusing on the overarching goal: "While maintaining rigorous academic standards, every child in the district will graduate career and/or college-ready." By hiring the highest quality and most effective teachers, supported by the best principals and assistant principals, Dr. Morrison is committed to ensuring that WCSD is on a pathway toward becoming a "World Class School District," and that all students have the opportunity to excel on this path.
